After President Donald Trump sided with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un over his criticisms of former Vice President Joe Biden on Memorial Day weekend, Al Jazeera presenter Mehdi Hasan said on Monday that if former President Barack Obama talked about a foreign dictator in the same way, Republicans would be "demanding execution." Trump touted his relationship with Kim Jong Un and took aim at Biden, who announced his 2020 presidential bid last month, in a tweet during his state visit to Japan this weekend. "North Korea fired off some small weapons, which disturbed some of my people, and others, but not me," the president tweeted on Saturday. "I have confidence that Chairman Kim will keep his promise to me, and also smiled when he called Swampman Joe Biden a low IQ individual, and worse. Perhaps that's sending me a signal?" Trump also publicly disagreed with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his own National Security Adviser John Bolton by downplaying Pyongyang's recent missile tests. … [Read more...] about If Obama Sided With Foreign Dictators Like Trump Does, GOP Would Be ‘Demanding Execution’: Mehdi Hasan
President Bush has rejected lawmakers' demands for documents related to last year's firings of eight U.S. attorneys, invoking what is known as executive privilege. But the White House says the president has not formally asserted executive privilege as to the testimony of former White House counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor. White House spokesman Tony Snow says President Bush intends to assert the privilege over the testimony if Congress, as the spokesman put it, continues to "reject the president's offer of accommodation." The White House gave the response Thursday, the deadline for answering subpoenas issued by the House and Senate Judiciary committees. The lawmakers want to find out what role the White House played in the firings of the federal attorneys last year. Some Democrats alleged the firings were aimed at influencing the prosecution of corruption cases. The White House has offered to have top aides be interviewed in closed-door sessions, but not … [Read more...] about White House Asserts Executive Privilege on Subpoenas
This is Please Like Me, BuzzFeed News’ newsletter about how influencers are battling for your attention. You can sign up here.I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss YouTube’s bad year-end Rewind videos YouTube has released its year-end “rewind” video for 2019. It makes one every year featuring its most popular content creators and its most-watched videos. The videos are usually produced in a hokey way with a poorly written script that’s barely strung together.Every year, the video gets brutally trolled. In 2017, it featured “Despacito,” the “Floor Is Lava challenge,” and Logan Paul right before his “suicide forest” debacle (yikes). That video was downvoted 2.2 million times. Last year, it featured Cardi B, BTS, and ASMR. That one got downvoted a whopping 17 million times (compared to just 2.7 million thumbs-ups).This year, YouTube acknowledged how much its annual videos are hated, and tried to put one … [Read more...] about Why Can’t YouTube Make A YouTube Video That People Like?
Conservatively speaking, there have been approximately 84 quadrillion episodes of television this decade, so narrowing down the 25 best over the last 10 years is on its face a silly thing to do. But we tried it anyway, because, simply put, there was never a better time to be a fan of TV than in the 2010s. The term “peak TV” was coined to define the explosion in content largely thanks to the ascendancy of Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, but it’s also come to reflect the spike in quality television as well. So to cast as wide a net as possible, we only allowed one episode per show on our list, and even then, there is every chance we didn’t include at least one of your favorites. This is what comment sections are for, so please reflect with us, in chronological order, on some of the best TV had to offer since 2010, and then share your personal favorites as well. Grey’s Anatomy: "Sanctuary" and "Death and All His Friends" (Season 6, Episodes 23 and 24)First … [Read more...] about 25 TV Episodes From This Decade We’ll Never Forget
It's the holiday season, but since the Democrats control the House, it's also impeachment season. Democrats had this time of year circled on their calendar to use the Mueller report to get rid of President Donald Trump. But like the Grinch, Robert Mueller almost ruined Christmas by stealing Russian collusion right out from under them. Not to worry, as of Wednesday morning, the Democrats have managed to abuse their constitutional powers so heinously, they've found a back door to impeachment anyways. I recently wrote that Ambassador Gordon Sondland's testimony had officially turned this impeachment sham into something closer resembling the infamous Soviet show trials of 1936-38. That his testimony—that no one ever told him anything about a quid pro quo, he just inferred it—didn't immediately end the impeachment inquiry is a national tragedy. Instead, Adam Schiff declared that the ambassador's testimony confirmed the high crimes and misdemeanors of the president. The eagerly … [Read more...] about Charlie Kirk: Democrats Are Going to Push This Soviet-Style Show Trial to the End | Opinion
