The burly Latino guard stationed near the entrance of the Fox Plaza skyscraper in Century City looked as if he could have been one of my cousins back in Anaheim. The guard’s face instantly took on a sour look. He pointed us to the concierge, who evidently had been expecting us.Two more layers of security later, each with people less willing to engage in small talk than the previous, my producer, Abbie Fentress Swanson, and I were on an elevator speeding toward the 28th floor. SIVAKASI New Delhi’s increasing pollution level has hit the fireworks industry in Sivakasi badly. But a man from the cracker hub has come up with a cost-effective solution to fight the capital city’s pollution to some extent. M. Ravisankar, an engineering graduate, has invented a small device which he claims reduces carbon monoxide emission from vehicles up to 40%. The device is nothing but an extension of the silencer that filters obnoxious gases and minute particulate matters emitted by engines. “I invented this two years back and have been using this in my Bajaj Avenger motorbike for over a year. I have practically seen it working,” Mr. Ravisankar, who is into business, said. The device is an eight-inch iron or steel pipe that could be made to fit the exhaust pipe of the silencer. The pipe of four-inch diameter is fitted with iron mesh on both ends. In between, the pipe is filled with activated charcoal (charcoal got on burning coconut shell) and coconut coir … [Read more...] about Sivakasi man invents simple device to fight air pollution

And we were a huge fan of her accessories! Not only did she step out in matching cream and black Chanel heels and her classic pearl drop earrings, but she also rocked … [Read more...] about The Duchess of Cornwall arrives in style as she joins Prince Charles on the royal tour
HAIZER, Algeria (Reuters) - While tens of thousands of Algerians have been gathering for four months in the capital to demand sweeping political reforms, former fighters who led the last confrontation with the establishment have been warning people not to rock the boat. FILE PHOTO: Demonstrators hold flag during anti government protests in Algiers, Algeria April 23, 2019. REUTERS/Ramzi Boudina In the 1990s, they drove an uprising against the military after it canceled a landmark multiparty election that Islamists were poised to win. This time they say protests could bring a repeat of the chaos and bloodshed their actions unleashed. “I deeply regret what happened in the 1990s,” once such fighter, Sheikh Yahya, said at his home in Haizer, a village in the Kabyle mountains 120 km (75 miles) east of the capital Algiers where he now works as a butcher. “This is why I will never participate in any action that might end up violent.” Some 200,000 people … [Read more...] about In Algeria, conservatives weigh in against pressure for Western-style democracy
